Sunset in Vestergade
I showed "Sunset"
in the demo-room of Gallery Image. In September 2005 you could see
the sunset in Vestergade. A beautiful and magnificent experience
of nature shined from a window in the basement to people passing
in the street.
I painted the sunset on an acrylic
sheet in the window lighted from the inside. During the summer vacation
I took a photo of the sunset every night,
and one of these is "Sunset" painted from.
A sunset often looks like a big abstract painting in
the sky, and like a painting, every sunset is unique. That's one
part of the inspiration for the piece. I have often painted motifs
from the everyday-life, looking both abstract and figurative at
the same time.
The sunset seems to be another kind of motif. A beautiful
and transient romantic cliché. But by placing the sunset
in the basement window in Vestergade, it is put into the streets'
ordinary everyday-life. Maybe it represents the everyday longing
for something else.
